EY Day & Home Depot Help KIPP LEAP Students on Community Project

Sixth grade students of KIPP South Fulton Charter school enrolled in UR Worth It’s LEAP program worked with EY volunteers to create an outdoor classroom.  To do a community project was one of the LEAP program activities.  The students decided that updating their outside area to make it more usable was more important than any other project submitted.  We are thankful to Home Depot for their generous donations of building and gardening supplies.

We are grateful for Home Depot’s donations to URWorthIt!® for their U Can Do It!® Leadership Empowerment Achievement Program.

Sunshine Day Camp - Project 4:10

Sunshine Day Camp, founded by Katie and Caroline Lowenstein, is a once-a-year, week-long summer camp lead by middle and high school students in Sugarloaf Country Club Subdivision. Founded in 2007, Sunshine Day Camp started when, on the spur of the moment, Katie and Caroline as well as two close friends, decided to start a camp to help neighborhood kids find something to do in the week before school started back up. Starting with a single camper, a little sister of the group, Katie, Caroline and friends quickly worked to expand, advertising to local families and friends, spreading across multiple schools and grades.

Now, years later, campers aged 3 to 8 enjoy a fun week filled with games, crafts, field trips, and water fun, all run by the sisters and their staff of high school and middle school students, building a solid community across all ages. “My favorite part of the camp is definitely seeing all of these teenagers just get in there with kids,” Katie says, “it’s just amazing that some kids you know are on the football field on Friday nights, and then the same boys are down on their hands and knees with the campers and play with them.”

All proceeds from the camp are donated to URWorthIt!® for their U Can Do It!® Leadership Empowerment Achievement Program.
